Tools give us much needed help.

“There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for..”

— Sam, The Two Towers

Climbing tools don’t make get to the top, but you can’t get to the top without them.

A friend of mine once said that when you injure your leg the Dr gives you crutches for a period of time. These are there because you need help walking and managing life while you recover. They aren’t meant to be life long. But if you refuse them, they could make the damage larger, even permanent.

Everyone on this journey needs crutches: blocks on your devices to stop you from looking at Porn. Devices that force you to pause, think and be curious about evil. You need a block so that you force your addicted brain to pause and ask evil questions about: Why here? Why now?

For all of us, these are essential climbing tools.

However, these tools, if your heart isn’t changing are just that: tools.

The goal at the summit isn’t that you realize “I don’t need these anymore!” but rather a heart that says, “Praise God for His grace, the wisdom found in community, and the amazing resources that made change possible!”

Maybe one day you won’t need the crutches any more. But if you are like me, I know that the possibility of breaking my leg is always around the corner. So, while I don’t use my crutches anymore, they are close by knowing that my heart might need them.

I can’t imagine a time in my life where I’m not using these services below, because I know my own heart.

However, by the grace of God, it’s been years since these tools have blocked content. They are installed. Active. Ready to be used at any moment to help me block evil. Even if I’m not trying to push their limits anymore.
