Stories give us light.

“Don’t adventures ever have an end? I suppose not. Someone else always has to carry on the story.”

Stories from the Top of Mt. Everest

When most men start out this journey one of the hardest things all of them encounter is that overcoming unwanted sexual behaviors is a long journey. I start out by saying that it takes at least 2 years to reach the top. We even use the metaphor that this journey is like climbing Mt Everest, a lifetime achievement. Some of us know that this is a massive effort and are too afraid or ashamed to climb. Some of are are too proud. Others of us have been trying to climb and fail each time because we are so unprepared for the work ahead.

The point of this section is to give you stories of hope, from men who reached the top of Climb29.

These men aren’t perfect. They are still sinners, on a road to understanding their stories more and more each day.

But evil no longer has the power it once did over sexual sin. These men are free from that addiction and now know how to talk about their stories. They have climbed with Jesus. They have climbed with others. When Evil comes knocking, they know how to answer the door, ask questions and tell Evil to move along.

Dom’s Story

Dom was in the first group to join Climb29 in the late fall of 2018. He started out barely unable to talk about his unwanted sexual behavior. Dom carried so much shame and for most of his life was trapped by what Evil whispered to him: You are gross, alone and pathetic. Now, Dom is a new man and stands tall with his Climbers and Jesus Christ. Dom showed courage, commitment and curiosity and was able to get to the top of Mt Everest on January 25th, 2021.

Dom's Verse:

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

- Psalm 139: 7-12

John’s Story

John was in the first group to join Climb29 in the early winter of 2019. John started his journey with Climb29 as someone who thought going inner circle would always be a struggle for him. John had given his all to many accountability groups and lasting change over his unwanted sexual behavior never came. During our time together, John worked hard to investigate his story and allow Jesus with the other climbers to walk next to him in his pain and finally put this temptation to rest. Now, John is a new man and stands tall with his Climbers and Jesus Christ. John showed courage, commitment and curiosity and was able to get to the top of Mt Everest on January 25th, 2021.
